Stephen Q. Spencer, CFA, is a Managing Director at ACT Capital Advisors with more than 36 years of experience evaluating business models and valuing companies for institutional investment. His extensive background as a buy-side analyst across all major economic sectors provides him with a sophisticated perspective when advising business owners on exit planning, mergers, and acquisitions.

Before joining ACT, Stephen held several senior investment leadership roles, including Head of Equities, Director of Research, and Senior Portfolio Manager for a major mutual fund family. In that capacity, he oversaw investment operations for $12 billion in assets and directly managed portfolios totaling more than $7 billion. His work involved deep financial analysis, company evaluation, and strategic investment decision-making across multiple industries.

Earlier in his career, Stephen served as a principal at a private investment management firm supporting ERISA, Taft-Hartley, institutional, and high-net-worth clients. His decades of experience managing institutional capital and leading research teams now inform his approach in guiding owners through the complexities of M&A and maximizing transaction outcomes.

Stephen earned a B.S. in Business Management with an emphasis in Finance and an MBA from the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
